What You Need To Know: 2024 Pennsylvania National

The second stop on the U.S. fall indoors tour, the Pennsylvania National, kicks off Thursday in Harrisburg and lasts 11 days, featuring top equitation, hunter and jumper competition.

Junior weekend runs from Thursday, Oct. 10, to Sunday, Oct. 13, with highlights including the Turnham Green/USEF Junior Jumper National Championships—showcasing both team competition in the Prix des States class and an individual championship—and junior hunter and pony hunter competition. The biggest draw will be Sunday’s Dover Saddlery/USEF Hunter Seat Medal, where 200 or so of the country’s top junior riders will vie for one of the biggest equitation prizes in the country. As always, the Chronicle will be there providing live commentary for every round with photos in case you can’t watch the whole live stream.

Senior week kicks off Monday, Oct. 14, with the open hunter divisions, which culminate in the grand hunter championship. Amateur-owner hunter, children’s hunter and adult amateur hunters get a turn next, as well as amateur jumpers and some divisions of junior jumpers.

Other favorite events include the $100,000 Grand Prix de Penn National, which takes place Oct. 19, and hunt night on Monday, Oct. 14, when side-saddle, hunt team and field hunter competition takes over the ring.

Kelly Tropin Whitridge and Chablis scored the grand amateur-owner hunter title at the 2023 Pennsylvania National.
