Taking into account feedback from members and stakeholders, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association board of directors has voted to reinstate the central iteration of the Sallie B. Wheeler/USEF/USHJA Hunter Breeding National Championships for the 2025 competition year.

Earlier this year, the USHJA announced a shift to a single-location format following a comprehensive program review aimed at ensuring the event’s long-term sustainability. The cancellation of the central championship sparked concern, prompting the board to revisit the decision.

After reconsideration and further discussion, the board has decided to allow the 2025 central championship to proceed, recognizing the meaningful role this event plays in developing and spotlighting the country’s top young hunters. Returning to its initial location for 2025, the central championship will be held Sep. 25 at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, during the Great Southwest Fall Classic.

“We are committed to celebrating and supporting hunter breeding across the country,” said USHJA President Britt McCormick. “Member feedback is vital to our association, and after further discussion, the board made the decision to move forward with the central championship this year. We recognize the value this program brings to the hunter breeding community and appreciate the continued engagement from those who are passionate about its future.”
