Rider Dies At Sydney International Horse Trials

Caitlyn Fischer, a 19-year-old rider, has died at the Sydney International Horse Trials in Australia.

Fischer suffered a fatal accident during the CCI* cross-country phase at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.

Fischer was riding the horse Ralphie in the one-star when the accident occurred at fence 2. She was provided urgent medical attention by the on-course paramedic and doctorbut was unable to be revived.

Caitlyn Fischer, a 19-year-old rider, has died at the Sydney International Horse Trials in Australia.

Fischer’s horse, Ralphie, a 12-year-old Thoroughbred cross (Silver Lyn King—Brilliant Choice, Brilliant Invader), is in a stable condition and remains under the observation of veterinarians.

Equestrian Australia Chairwoman Judy Fasher said, “On behalf of the whole sport I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Caitlyn’s parents, Ailsa Carr and Mark Fischer, and her family. The thoughts and prayers of horse people all over the country are with Caitlyn’s family and friends at this sad time.”

Fischer had completed five one-stars with Ralphie prior to the Sydney International Horse Trials, most recently finishing seventh at the Camden NSW CIC* in Australia on April 16 this year.  

The Sydney International Horse Trials were cancelled following Fischer’s fall.
