Versailles, France—Aug. 2
Only nine teams will compete this afternoon in the jumping team final at the Paris Olympic Games. Mexico was 10th in Thursday’s qualifier to earn a spot in the final, however the team had to withdraw after Carlos Hank Guerreiro’s Porthos Maestro WH Z was withdrawn for veterinary reasons. They could not replace him, as one of their horses, Contendros 2 ridden by Andres Azcarraga, did not pass the inspection on Wednesday, and their reserve pair, Federico Fernandez and Romeo, was already on the team.
Because the withdrawal happened within two hours before the start of competition at 2 p.m. local time (8 a.m. ET), the 11th ranked team, Spain, could not replace them in the final.
The U.S. team members will be competing in the same order they did yesterday. Laura Kraut and Baloutinue are eighth in the order, Karl Cook and Carcacole De La Roque are 17th in the order, and McLain Ward and Ilex are in the final rotation, and the order will be determined by team ranking after two rounds.
