SAPPHIRE, 13-year-old, chestnut mare, Belgian Warmblood (Darco—Idjaz C, Hedjaz) 2004 Athens Olympics Team Gold 2006 World Equestrian Games (Germany) Team Silver 8th-2007 FEI Rolex World Cup Final (Nev.) Ward’s other Olympic hopeful, Philippa, didn’t qualify for the Olympic short list. She amassed 42 faults in four rounds of the USEF Olympic Selection Trials. Ward plans to ride Philippa at the FEI World Cup Final in Sweden, April 24-27. ”Philippa wasn’t quite ready for the Olympic selection trials. She’d done so well last fall at the indoor shows that we were hoping that, even though she was green, we were prepared. But there were things on those courses that she hadn’t seen in competition. It was a really good learning experience for the horse and part of her education,“ Ward said.
