Competitors in the hunter divisions at the Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows will see a new name on one of the rings this coming season.  Many of the hunter classes at the 2013 Lake Placid Horse Shows Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC will take place in the newly named Kovacs Williams Hunter Ring, formerly known as the Hunter Annex.  The ring is being renamed in honor of Joanne Kovacs and John Williams.

The renaming is in gratitude of a generous donation made by Dennis Sisco and Alexine Lesko, longtime riders at the Lake Placid Horse Shows, who have chosen to honor Kovacs and Williams to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their association together.

“This is a very fitting way that Alexine and I can show our appreciation of Joanne and John and all that they have done for us,” said Sisco.  “Our family wanted to do something special for them and there really could not be a better venue for this than Lake Placid which stands alone as our absolute favorite horse show.”

Kovacs and Williams operate Show Horses, Inc., a Connecticut-based business with a long history of successfully developing young horses and training hunter and jumper riders.  They have been part of the Lake Placid Horse Shows for more than three decades.  They are strong advocates of Lake Placid and they plan their whole year around their annual two-week stay at the Lake Placid Horse Shows.

“Joanne and John have been coming to Lake Placid for many years,” said Lake Placid Horse Show Association Chairman Richard M. Feldman.  “Both of them love Lake Placid and I thank them for all the support they have given us over the years.  I also want to thank Dennis and Alexine and the Sisco-Lesko family for their generous support and for allowing us to join them in recognizing and honoring Joanne and John.”

The ring will be officially dedicated with a mounted plaque commemorating Kovacs and Williams.  As one of two rings utilized for hunter classes, the Kovacs Williams Hunter Ring will host some of the nation’s top hunter horses and riders.  Also, on the final day of the I Love New York Horse Show when the USHJA International Hunter Derby takes over the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field, it will be combined with the other hunter ring to form a large jumper ring for a select number of jumper classics to culminate show jumping’s two-week stay in the Adirondacks.

“The Lake Placid Horse Shows mean so much to all of us and we are thrilled to be able to help the horse shows even as we honor Joanne and John,” added Sisco.  “As others choose to sponsor the shows’ other rings, we will have a sense of pride that Joanne and John, who were among the first to become part of the Lake Placid Horse Show family decades ago, were the first to be recognized in this manner.”

The 2013 Lake Placid Horse Shows will run from June 25–July 7.  The shows are USEF ‘AA’ rated for Hunters and have a 6* rating for Jumpers.  The Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse Shows award over a half a million dollars in prize money!
