Kyle Carter And Buck Davidson Add Sportscaster To Their Resumes

Ever wish you could listen in on the chats that upper-level riders have about events, horses and riders?

Well, now you can.

Longtime friends Kyle Carter and Buck Davidson have created a YouTube video series of eventing analysis and just debuted their first episode–a preview of the Wellington Eventing Showcase.

Carter said that he and Davidson would always chat about the sport and joke with each other in the warm-ups at events. When a client of Carter’s suggested the two do a show last fall, “The Sort of OK Show About Horses” was born.

“We’d been talking about the media and trying to keep up on the sport, and basically find a way to bring more information to the public and make it fun so it’s something we would both enjoy doing,” said Carter. “I talked to [Davidson] about it and we did one try right after the USEA Convention [in Washington D.C.] to get a feel for it.”

Carter and Davidson hope to do preview shows before each major Fédération Equestre Internationale competition this spring and follow-up shows with post-game analysis.

While Episode 1 clocks in at 50 minutes, Carter says future episodes will average about 15 minutes.

“It’s a little bit of a work in progress, but that was our trial run for what we’re really going to try and do, which is a lot of keeping up with what’s going on in the sport—doing the preview and then trying to do a run-down afterwards,” he said. “Once we got started, we were only going to highlight a couple of horses, but we just sort of kept rolling with it and covered all the horses. It was only a small group, so we felt it was best to cover everybody at this one, and for future ones we’ll do highlights.”

For each episode, Carter and Davidson will each choose a team of four riders they think will do well at each event and have a friendly wager.

They’re also inviting fans to send their own team picks to fanmail@buckandkyle.com. They’ll announce a winner during the corresponding recap program.

Each show will also highlight a worthy cause. At the end of their first episode, Carter and Davidson introduced Henry Trice, the nephew of one of Carter’s clients, who had a heart transplant last year after suffering from restrictive cardiomyopathy.
