When Katherine Bateson-Chandler qualified for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games on August 13 at the Festival of Champions in Gladstone, N.J., with Nartan, a 15-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Jazz—Tanja), she created a milestone. For the first time in the history of the Games according to U.S. Equestrian Federation records, one U.S. owner will have horses competing in three different sports: dressage, show jumping and four-in-hand driving.
Jane Forbes Clark, who has long been an active supporter of high performance equestrian sport, as well as the president and CEO of the U.S Equestrian Team Foundation, owns five horses that are qualified for the WEG. Along with Nartan, “Team Clark” consists of Urico, a 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Zandor Z—Omara) qualified for show jumping with Mario Deslauriers, in addition to three of the five horses on James Fairclough’s qualified four-in-hand driving team.

“I’m obviously very excited and very happy for Katherine, James and Mario because this has been a year long commitment on the part of all four of us in order to be represented by all three teams on the WEG,” Clark said. “We did it. We are very proud and very excited.”
