It Is Hollywood, After All

Los Angeles—Oct. 3

The costume class at the Longines LA Masters isn’t just a fun and games affair. It’s Hollywood, after all, so there are make-up artists and professional costuming, and it’s all for a good cause.

One professional and one amateur rider team up for the Pro Am Challenge, and each team rides to raise money for a different charity. Teams picked a song to match their costume and started their rounds with a skit designed to impress celebrity judges Denise Richards, Sam Rubin and Carly Steel, who doled out style points to each pair. Each of the charities—Thrive Animal Rescue, Park Place Foundation, Wolf Connection, JustWorld, Autism Speaks, Compton Jr. Posse, Amade and Ride On—received $35,000.

The team benefiting Ride On—Tracey Wade and Kaley Cuoco—dressed in Star Wars attire and started their round with an epic lightsaber battle. They won the style competition—which surely didn’t have anything to do with a pair of stormtroopers taking the judges hostage at the start of the performance. (Check out our Behind Stall Doors feature with actress Cuoco’s mount for the competition, Bionetty.

Kent Farrington and Alex Crown, who rode to benefit Autism Speaks, turned on the speed to lead the victory gallop dressed as gummy bears.
