Scott Brash, who is currently ranked No. 1 in the Longines FEI Jumping Rankings, informed Horse & Hound that he will not be riding his top horse, Hello Sanctos, in the upcoming European Championships at Aachen, Germany, on Aug. 11-23.

Hello Sanctos isn’t injured; Brash is instead choosing to aim him at completing the third leg of the Rolex Grand Slam by winning the $1.5 Million CP International Grand Prix. Brash and Sanctos won the first two legs—the Rolex grand prix events at at Geneva in December and at Aachen in May—and so stand the chance of winning a €1 million bonus if they win at Spruce Meadows.

“It is felt that the amount of jumping required over a short period of time in a championship would not be in the best interest of the horse this year,” Brash told Horse & Hound

Brash and Hello Sanctos were an integral part of the British team gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2013 European Championships, where they earned individual bronze. Sanctos also jumped for Great Britain at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (France).
