In every competition, there are moments that might not have made the news, but that stick in our minds. On a sunny Ocala, Fla., afternoon at the Great American $1 Million Grand Prix on March 27, these are some of the images that stood out to me!

When Great American $1 Million Grand Prix winner Roberto Teran couldn’t quite believe he’d jumped clean in Round 1…

Watching Lee McKeever ride the course with McLain Ward and Rothchild…

The fact that former junior phenom Michael Hughes has the ride on a McLain Ward-owned horse Torgal de Virton and jumped a clean round in Round 1 and ended up in eighth with phenomenal efforts such as this one…

When Andre Thieme gave everyone watching a lesson in a following hand while riding Conthendrix to fifth place…

When Haley Gassel had a bit of a California Chrome moment as her saddle slipped back on Quite Dark 2 mid-round…

Gassel kept going, though, and turned in an eight-fault round…

Watching Jonathan McCrea jump his third consecutive clean Round 1 in a HITS Million class, though he ended up ninth this time instead of third…

When Uppie de Lis looked out over the crowd as if he was saying “Hey, watch this!”…

And then jumped like a hunter over 1.60-meter fences with Andrew Kocher to place 15th…

Good Luck’s handsome face…

When second-placed Cian O’Connor very quietly said “Good boy,” to Good Luck as they walked out of the ring after their jump-off…

McLain Ward telling the photographer in the ring to step back, because his jump-off plan might have Rothchild stepping on her toes…

When Hunter Holloway made it clear how much she appreciated Cassevel’s efforts in their four-fault round that put them 18th

Seeing Cortes ‘C’s signature leg crossing move coming out in full force in his round with Beezie Madden that put them in 11th with one rail…

And seeing Rothchild actually prick his ears over a fence instead of pinnning them!
