U.S. eventer Clark Montgomery held onto the third place spot he’d earned in dressage at the Blenheim CCI*** aboard Loughan Glen. Irish rider Aoife Clark couldn’t be caught. “Of course it is disappointing that we didn’t win, but at the same time, it’s exciting to see how good you have to get to win,” Montgomery said.

On home turf, another young show jumper made her mark, as Brianne Goutal prevailed in the $200,000 American Gold Cup CSI-W. It was a beautiful weekend in North Salem, N.Y., for show jumping, as Beezie Madden also won the $100,000 American Gold Cup Qualifier with Coral Reef Via Volo and Kent Farrington topped the $50,000 Hermés Classic with Willow.

In Del Mar, Calif., the Chronicle’s newest blogger, dressage groom Lauren Keeton, took her own “Be Olympic ever day” advice and earned blue in the inaugural Groom’s Class, sponsored by Pro Equine Grooms, at the Del Mar International. Steffen Peters and Legolas 92 were back in action, winning the Grand Prix by more than 10 points with a 76.70 percent. His wife, Shannon, showed his former ride Weltino’s Magic for the first time and won a class of Intermediaire II with a 6.55 percent, scoring second in the other I2 class with 66.71 percent.
