The National Horse Show announced Monday, June 3, that the board of directors has decided to raise the number of riders accepted to compete at the ASPCA Maclay Final from 150 to 175.

The additional 25 riders would be chosen through the ASPCA Maclay Regional qualifying system.

This is at least the third time that the qualifying criteria has changed in three years.

There are two ways to qualify for the Maclay Final, which will take place Nov. 3 during the National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky. The top 50 riders, based on points, will automatically qualify to compete at the final and are not required to compete in Maclay Regionals. Those already-qualified riders may elect to compete in a Maclay Regional competition and will be eligible for awards, but will not be factored into the percentage of riders that qualify through the regional system.

Another 125 riders will be invited to compete in the final based on results from the Maclay Regional competitions.

Kim Dorfman, R. Scott Fitton, Cynthia Hankins and Lyman T. Whitehead will be judging the ASPCA Maclay Final.
