Updated April 21

The entry list for this year’s Defender Kentucky CCI5*-L, which takes place April 24-27, has shrunk to 35 competitors, from its original 42.

Canadian rider Lindsay Traisnel announced April 18 on social media that she has withdrawn Bacyrouge from the five-star due to minor injury.

“While disappointing for our team and supporters after such a great start to the season, making the best choice for Dreamy’s long term health is always an easy decision,” she wrote. “We’ll be making sure he is 100% before we start preparing for this fall. A huge thank you to our sponsors for their support through all the ups and downs! Wishing our friends wonderful rides next week.”

As of April 18

Harry Meade has withdrawn Superstition, with whom he was fifth at Kentucky in 2021. He still has two rides, Et Hop Du Matz and Grafennacht.

Great Britain’s Tom McEwen has withdrawn JL Dublin, his team gold-medal partner from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. With “Dubs,” McEwen has finished second at Kentucky the past two years, but this year the pair instead will contest Badminton. McEwen still has his second horse, Brookfield Quality, on the Kentucky list, however that horse is also cross-entered at Badminton.

As of March 31

Irish rider Joseph Murphy has withdrawn Calmaro, with whom he finished ninth at Kentucky in 2022. They were one of nine combinations cross-entered at Badminton.
