The past few weeks have been a bit up and down, and I have to apologize for not keeping up on my blog. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how to put into words my current situation.
I guess it would be appropriate to talk about what has been going on with Cooper…
Cooper, who has now been through everything under the sun, is going through yet another hurdle on his road to recovery.
Unfortunately, foundering is something that is quite common in situations when a horse can’t put weight evenly on all four limbs. Cooper had a serious acute case of laminitis come up last week.
If it wasn’t for Kevin Keane and Steve Teichman being so on top of the situation, Cooper would not be alive right now. His foot had begun to sink because of all the weight the right hind has been carrying.
Fortunately, my farrier Doug Neilson and Steve have come up with a plan to try to assist this horse as much as possible. We are taking the situation day by day, and I am thankful for every day that Cooper is still alive and kicking.
Day by day is all you can do, and if you are familiar with laminitis (which I am not), I guess it can be a serious rollercoaster. Paired with his already serious injuries, this situation can seem a bit overwhelming at times. I feel so bad for Cooper…he deserves so much more. But he is happy and being as wonderful as he can possibly be throughout this whole situation. I cannot imagine a horse being more happy to be alive than Cooper…He is such a love.

On the up note, I am riding Ping again, and he is feeling pretty wild and frisky. It’s hard to keep him on all four feet when I walk him every day. I also recently taught a clinic at Beth Battel’s barn in New Jersey, and I will include pictures from that. She has such a nice farm and breeds lovely horses.
I also want to say congratulations to my student Emma Riley upon purchasing Barrett Diehl’s horse Topper. Although I am excited about her having a great horse, Barrett will be moving on from her life at True Prospect Farm shortly.
I hope everyone had a great holiday!
Please pray for Cooper. He needs a miracle and is due for some good luck.
Thanks,
Jennie
