I spilled a bit of grease on my breeches yesterday and am wondering what is the best way to get the spot out. If there is a product I can use at home I would prefer that over dry cleaning due to the expense. I think it was a drop of two of grease from something that had butter or oil on it if that matters.
What's the best way to deal with this? I haven't touched the spot yet for fear of messing it up before I find a good solution to the problem.
For those type of stains, I use a Resolve (formerly Spray n' Wash) Stain stick. Rub the product on the stain, and also do it on the inside of the fabric. Rub area to get the Resolve into the fabric. Let sit for 10 minutes or so, wash in COLD water (hot might set the stain). Check to see if the spot comes out, only rarely do I have to repeat...If you can't tell while the breeches are wet, semi air dry-DO NOT dryer dry, it will set the stain, and repeat if necessary. Good luck!
Polomolive 'lifts grease' (& softens hands) and I've used it on clothing spots but it does foam up so don't add it to the washing machine. Just rub it in the spot and hand wash, repeat if necessary till the spot lifts.
I have good luck getting grease stains off of fabric with
GoJo (mechanics hand cleaner) or Goop (ditto). Use the
kind without pumice. Rub the cream into the stain, let
it sit for a couple minutes, rinse the area with water (can
use a towel to blot water if you don't want to wet the
entire garmet). I usually follow with dish detergent
like Dawn Ultra just to remove the odor of the cleaner
before I rinse the spot.
I pre-treat greasy stains with dish detergent - preferably Dawn, but if not then whatever I have on hand. It works very well; after all, getting rid of grease is what dish detergents pride themselves on.
The Great White North, where we get taxed out the wazoo
At a show once I grabbed the Cowboy Magic Green Spot Remover for such a thing and it made the mark a lot less obvious and then it washed out fine. I have also found Resolve of both the stick and the carpet type spray useful. Guess I'm a slob...
If the Dawn fails, I use Carbona for oil & grease. It will even remove set stains after washing. Might have to mail order it. I used to be able find it locally. Last time I had to buy it online, but it's well worth the shipping.
