I'm all for deconstructing the two-party mold. However, with our current system in place, I'll point to 1992 and 2000. Votes for the third party candidates DID, in fact, have an effect on who won those elections.

Simple, I voted for Gary Johnson because if he got 5% of the vote, the Libertarian Party would receive federal funding, essentially making us a three party system. That would be the most progress this country has seen in a long time.

For those of you that weren't aware, the third party candidates had their own debate, which was very interesting and informative. The video is online if anyone is still interested.

I voted third party and have before. I lobby for a living so the politics of having only two parties is something I have to deal with everyday. We need people in office who aren't beholden to, well, people like me.
