It was such a great musical. They already have at least one bad movie version of it (that I am aware of). Now there is another slated to be released Christmas Day.

One thing they did that I think will really help make the movie is that they decided NOT to prerecord the singing and then match it up with the film. They are doing the singing live as they film just as if they were on stage for a Broadway show.

I was skeptical at first but once I saw the trailer I was pretty suprised.

I have seen the trailers, and while I agree that this is a much better production than the last one I saw, I still don't think it feels right. Les Mis was that show that I saw multiple times on Broadway, and the soundtrack that still stops me in my tracks.

This production is definitely leaps and bounds ahead of the Mama Mia movie.

I'm excited for it, especially the non pre-recorded singing part. That's where so many movie musicals fail and just become ridiculous. It won't be perfect, but I'm still eager to see it.

Really?? I had not heard that. Sounds interesting.

I would pretty much go to see Hugh Jackman just read the phone book, never mind sing it. I saw him on Broadway years ago in Boy from Oz. He is great.

Russell Crowe in a musical? Hmm. That also may be worth the price of a ticket, though not for the same reason.

Saw Les Mis on Broadway - LOVED it!

Have the soundtrack music - love that too!

Have only seen the TV ad once and thought it looked fabulous, can't wait to see the movie.

The movie is a whole different entity than the Broadway show but as such I think the possibilities for expanding the story are endless (something just not possible on the live stage).

And the "live" music in the movie (as opposed to "canned" music from the theater production) sounded really good in the TV ad that I saw.

So for me at least, I'm looking forward to a great movie experience!

I am way excited for it... I wish they'd make Miss Saigon into a movie musical, because that seems like it could adapt so well... I mean, it's a lot easier to film a helicopter than to fly it in on stage...

I'm excited! I think Claddagh is right...they are 2 different things, just like the Phantom of the Opera movie. If you compare it to the show, the show wins hands down, but the movie has it's charms and I happen to like it.

I saw a preview where it went into all the aspects of filming this "live" instead of with canned music... I'm not a fan of musicals, but I'm now super-excited to see this one.

I just hope they make Gavroche less annoying. Took my husband to go see it last spring, and as we were walking out of the theatre, he announced, "The best part was when the kid bit it." Lots o' blue-hairs turning around in horror at that one...

One of my favorites....saw a Broadway production in Denver. Listened to the sound track until the tape wore out while I drive around the country looking for the job eons agon.

I can't wait---got goosebumps and a bit teary just watching the clips.

But I wonder, will it be 3 hrs. long or will they cut out a lot? It's a long show and now as a movie, there will be lots of scenery to be shown.

Who will be playing the Thenardiers?
