What's up with the new ads?
I've noticed a lot of completely non-horse related ads on COTH since the upgrade. For example, on the right I've seen several different ads for on-line gaming sites. All of them depict cartoon characters/avatars in scantily clad clothing and suggestive wording. Who do they think we are? A bunch of teenage boys?
The truck ads I can understand because we need something to pull the horse trailers, but things that remind one of "World of Warcraft"? I just don't get it. Maybe there are people on COTH who play those sorts of on-line games, but I can't imagine a huge majority of us do.

I wonder if you are getting targeted ads, those Google buys space for and you get whatever Google sees you may be interested in.
Yeah, I too have seen some very goofy ad, must have come from clicking on those kitchen counter sites in that one thread and now Google things I want to remodel my kitchen.

So I get that google is picking ads, but why the gaming stuff? The only thing I've played was some kind of bubble game on FB and I quit that a while ago since it was too hard to pass the levels without buying in with real $$$ or getting zillion friends to play too.

Yeah, mine don't make any sense either. I got that gaming thing earlier and it looks like some kind of cross between WoW and really trite softcore porn. OMG pool parties! And now I'm getting Disney Parks ads, but I'm a grumpy hippie stick in the mud who thinks theme parks are a blight on the landscape. Weird.

Well, I'm getting ads for engagement rings and, trust me, I am a LONG way from ever getting married again. The wrinkle cream ad makes sense, though.

I'm just glad the popup ads that covered the lower portion of the screen are gone! I could care less what's on the side.

Really? Most of my ads are horse related! I've gotten a few for Fios, and one for "shop my power.com"

Since the debacle of the truck/John Deere pop-ups, I've installed AdBlock. I was a bit bummed about losing the sidebar ads because I liked seeing things from SmartPak and Dover--now, it sounds like I can be a little less bummed. Bleh.

I'd say 75% of the ads are horse-related and 25% are completely off-the-wall. That's one reason why I haven't installed ad-blocker because I don't want to miss the relevant stuff.
I hadn't realized until I started the thread that the weird ads were coming from googleAd.
