Here is a little more info.
posted on behalf of Weston Park International Horse Trials.
It is with great sadness we announce that Apache Sauce number 256 ridden by Emily King, owned by Gillian Jones was put down at Weston Park horse trials on Saturday afternoon. Apache Sauce jumped the first fences beautifully. He was then pulled up lame between fences 2 and 3. Following a veterinary examination with his owner and Mary King the decision was made to put him down later that afternoon.

A google search (tonight) results in no further information on his injury. It doesn't seem that anyone knows what happened (except, of course, his connections) except that he pulled up lame but didn't fall.
Oh well.
RIP old boy. You weren't terribly fancy or gorgeous, but you were such an individual and I always enjoyed watching you go..

The COTH article, link on the right, says that the horse had become wary of drops and galloping downhill, why he got bumped down for Mary's daughter to compete. Then he blew a front tendon. Think the horse was sore and only he knew it? Too bad they can't talk.

Very sad news...Dear Caffery (Apache Sauce) was put down on saturday , his front tendon ruptured at Weston Park Horse Trials. Emily my daughter had a very fun autumn season with him. They were happily galloping on between fences 2 and 3 and it suddenly went. He had never been lame in his life...we are all feeling very sad, dear caff, we are going to miss him soo much.X
