To The Moderators: Banner Ads
I've lately been getting a large "banner ad" at the bottom of my screen. It is quite annoying as it takes up about 20% of the screen area and I can't find a "cancel" button.
I understand your need to "monitize" your 'Net presence and pay for stuff so that we can enjoy this forum. But at least give me the chance to get my screen back after I've looked at the ad.
Thank you for your time.

I am having the same problem (something about chicken wings) and it completely blocks the navigation at the bottom of the page.

There is a cancel button. It's in the right corner, but is often "floating" above the actual ad....it's often in green or black too, so blends into the sidebar ads.
I, too, am fine with all the ads and understand why they're there. But please...I know they can be set to disappear after 15 seconds, or make the cancel link a brighter, more obvious color.
Well isn't this dandy?

It used to be when one paid the membership fee, the ads didn't appear. That appears to no longer be the case, and they are extremely annoying!

They seem to be gone on my end. Soooo much better I can actually see . Maybe it was a trial run to see what we thought?

I was waiting for someone to make a post about this. They are REALLY irritating, and the close button takes far too long to appear. Aren't the ads at the top and side of the page enough, especially as we all had to get used to the new narrower page?!

you can make internet use ad free by using something like AdBlock Plus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir.../adblock-plus/
it works great - no ads anywhere on the internet (including COTH)

Trying to get some answers for you--advertising is not within moderator purvey, and since it's Saturday, it might take a while to find out what the deal is.
Trust me, your voices will be heard!

Thank you. I understand the concept of "The Weekend."
I understand, too, that this is likely not in your general purview but you are our "point of contact" so you get the first brickbats!!!
Looking forward to a "peaceful resolution."

Weird. As soon as I posted that, it popped up for a few seconds, then went away.

Same here. Maybe Firefox is blocking it?

I had it pop up yesterday, and could eliminate it by refreshing the page. Today it has a cancel button, so it can be eliminated.

Yup. I do not understand all the people who complain and complain about ads, yet won't take three minutes to make them go away permanently. Some people just like to complain.
