    Default Sore/sores on neck

Preface this post by saying I will be taking him to the vet, but we can't get an appt. until Thursday.
Just noticed today on our walk that Willy has a big sore on his neck, surrounded by several smaller "rough" patches. Now, judging by how this thing looks, it didn't pop up overnight, but I am pretty darn vigilant with my dogs so it couldn't have been there much longer than that. Here are a few pictures:

His collar sits below the sore so that's not the cause, but just to be sure that the collar doesn't irritate it I've taken it off. It doesn't seem to be painful for him, maybe a little itchy if anything.

Anyone know what this might be and/or have suggestions on treatment until we can see the vet?

    Thanks!

The big red one looks a little bit like a hot spot?

The smaller ones look more like bug bites...ants? Spider? If that's the case, I could see scratching leading to the big red one.

Do antihistamines improve the itchiness? Or topical cortizone?

Thanks! The big red one does not look like any hot spot I've ever seen. It is more of a bump then a sore I guess.
We do have spiders in the house (old farm house that sat empty for 1+ years) so its quite a possibility. Although it's really disgusting to think he'd have THAT many bites in the span of a day or two *shudder*.

I haven't put anything on it because he really isn't bothered by it. When I touch it he leans into it like it's itchy, but other than that he doesn't scratch it on his own.

Over the weekend the big one about doubled in size. Not height wise, but in area. I am going to call the vet first thing tomorrow and see if they can squeeze him in tomorrow night.

Could the little ones be flea bites? One of our cats got bumps exactly like that during the The Battle of the Fleas in 2011. I'm inclined to agree about bugs of some sort but leaning more towards fleas than spiders since there are so many of them.

I also agree that the red spot looks like it could be a hot spot or possibly a bite that got infected?

My barn dog got a sore on her neck years ago. It was round, about the size of a half dollar, oozing with no hair on it.

I sprayed it with Blue Kote, wrapped her neck in gauze and then a polo wrap.

It was healing within a week. I think her's was a fungal infection.
