Small acreage near Chesapeake, VA?
At last, my brother has seen the light and is moving from California to a job in Chesapeake, VA. He is hoping to find a farmette with a few acres of land, suitable for having chickens (not horses. I love the guy, but I wouldn't trust him with a horse). Is he likely to find a farmette, or any property that is zoned to allow chickens, within say an hour's commute of Chesapeake? I don't know what his budget would be; I'm guessing low-middle-ish six figures. My nephew will be starting high school, so a decent school system would be good.
Thanks for any advice anyone has.

Chesapeake has lots of rural areas. He should not have an issue.

And the schools are great, esp Hickory High.

No problem finding a place like that, I live in Chesapeake as well. However, I went to Hickory and wouldn't recommend it....entirely too over-crowded. Would strongly recommend something like Greenbriar Christian instead (brother went there).

Many folks working in Chesapeake actually live in NC. Camden and Moyock have farmettes and are within 20 to 30 minutes.

True, I went to Atlantic Shores and I LOVED it. Great teachers, small 20-30 student classes, great school. Never had any problems with fights, drugs, bullies, etc...
