Default Transport for cat from DC to Charlotte?

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced small animal transport company to get a cat from MD (right outside of DC) to the Charlotte, NC area?

I have agreed to take a cat from my brother and SIL, but they are having issues finding an affordable way to transport the cat here. Given everyone's schedules, we are unable to coordinate meeting halfway or one of us driving the whole way in the near future. The companies my SIL has contacted so far gave estimates way higher than the cost of horse transport.

Is that the norm for small animal transport? Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone driving from DC to Charlotte soon and want to make some cash?

Do you know anyone at Capital Challenge? There might be someone going home from there this weekend?

DC to Charlotte isn't that bad of a drive - make it a nice fall weekend getaway to get the cat...

Oh, I know - I've made it many times to see my brother and his family. It takes me about 7 hours. As I thought I said in my OP, though, our schedules simply don't work out for anything like that anytime in the near future. I also run a busy horse farm and lesson program, and leaving for a couple of days simply isn't that easy. They have two small children and a busy work schedule, so the same goes for them.
