I should probably have an alter for this, but I don't really care. If you're really religious or sensitive, this probably isn't a thread for you to read. Fair warning.
Here goes... I have reason to believe I'm pregnant. This is not a reason to celebrate, actually it's a reason to panic. I am a week late and the stick I peed on said I was. I have no intention of keeping it, so if you're going to try and lecture me into it, don't waste your breath (keystrokes?). I am 24, essentially single, and still in school. I can barely support myself, much less a child. I am on birth control and I am very vigilant about taking it. I'm not really sure how this happened in the first place
For those of you who have gone through this procedure (I can't be the only one!) what can I expect? I have an appointment tomorrow morning to confirm (or hopefully contradict!) the home test results. Then what? I know it will all be explained to me tomorrow but I'm nervous. This is a time that I wish my mom was still alive.

I haven't gone through something like that (ie unwanted pregnancy) but I do have some thoughts:
I'm not going to tell you what to do one way or the other (ie to do the procedure or not). However, what I would recommend is talking to your OB/GYN about what happened. You mentioned that you have been "very vigilant" but clearly something wasn't working properly. It would be good to find out why so you can reduce your anxiety in the future.
If you are pregnant, you're early enough for a medical (non-surgical) termination. Generally an ultrasound is needed to confirm that, and the process can feel nasty (nausea, vomiting, chills, even diarrhea are common side effects), but it wouldn't require the D&C.
Even with perfect, vigilant use of birth control pill, one in ever 100 women using it will get pregnant each year. The success/failure rate is the same for proper condom use. Unfortunately, short of sterilization or abstinence, there is no 100% fail-safe method to prevent pregnancy.
I'm sorry for the predicament you are in and I hope everything works out OK.
