I was just curious, for those of you who ride 'english' but have Paints, Quarter Horses ... what are some of your favorite bloodlines ... and why??

Zippo pine bar probably my favorite
If bred correctly usely you come out with a more appendix type syle body. Not the stocky type and usually they have amazing brains on them.

My guy is poco line he just turned 8 got him late in his 6yr and he has been amazing. So maybe for paint line poco I've heard so many good things about them and they have a brain and are very willing workers usually. Bulky more stocky usually though but my guy looks great in dressage. My fiance and I bred our (my) filly to have some of my favorite performance lines for H/J. Here's her pedigree: Invest N Magnificence. My favorite lines in here are Zippo Pine Bar, Scotch Bar Tommy, Versary Bars, Heirloom, and The Invester. Here is her a few months ago Pic 1 and Pic 2. I got really good reviews on her from Carol on JMR for a future in the HJ ring

Well, over the years, I've had good luck w/Poco Bueno lines for lots of things, had a Leo great-grandson who won both western and English (including local unrated hunter shows) and also did 2nd level dressage at one point, and I foxhunted him for many years. My Skipper W line horse not a great mover English but hunted for 20 years and had great form over fences. My little mare (pony sized at a hair over 14.1) has good enough movement she'd be great at hunters or eventing or dressage but I don't have a kid handy to show her! She is built a tinch downhill but can engage correctly with ease:

Oh yes Overo Hunter ... the Magnificent Heir horse is from my neck of the woods!! Mostly halter, but he's had some really nice all-around performers
I like the Starrific horses as well ... and you can't beat a good Iron Rebel/Tiger Leo cross ..

I've got a daughter of Iron Rebel out of a daughter of Tiger Leo ..she is only about 15 hands and looks more like the Tiger Leo side of the family --but her full brother took after the Iron Rebel side ... 16 hands, Top 10 Congress finalist ...

so I am hoping we will get something leggy this time around. He's been producing size and his dam has produced some HUS horses.

I've got a little mare who's movement is just 'freaky' as most people describe her ..her second foal is with the trainer right now ... and they are focusing on english classes even though he's only going to be 15.1 or 15.2 ...

Thanks propspony for sharing that link, I think it's interesting to see who's doing well in the dressage ring ... I wish there was a better way to keep track of what a horse does outside their regular breed association

I love love love the appendixes! They have the great brains, and usually the nice height and look/movement for the english classes. My 18 year old gelding is fantastic..he's Zippo Pine Bar lines, showed in hand and lunge line younger, then some western type stuff, then as he "grew" (literally) up he showed at big h/j shows in the 3'6" classes (he ended up 17 hands and had the warmblood looking type body due to the qh in him...most people thought he was wb but he has a great brain). Now that he's older he's pretty much retired to trail riding, but we've also been team penning and fun stuff like that...he has the size for the english but the brains and the "zippo" jog that makes him so much fun to ride.
I also have a Skys Blue Boy mare out of a tb mare, and she is a phenomenol mover, but she does have a "mare" attitude and the sensitivity issues of a tb. She moved nice enough to compete in the dressage shows (but she hates the leg and mouth contact and such that dressage requires). Gorgous trot and fantastic jump on her. So now she's back to the h/j aqha and open showing since she seems to like that much better than dressage.
There are many "newer" english type appendix and aqha lines that are bringing the size and movement in but keeping the nice temperment of the quarter horses (for the most part, my mare kindof an exception, lol). I think it's pretty cool too that many of them are versatile enough to show in some of the western classes as well as english.
I work with warmbloods and dressage (manage a dressage farm) and I would take my qh's over the wb's any day to work around.
