today at 3:05pm I was in my car driving. Alone on a long stretch of road, I thought of Aiden and how he might be doing. Just as I came around a bend, a single hawk took off from a tree on the side of the road and flew in front of me for about 500 feet and then flew up and out of my line of sight.
A coincidence? I think not.
C'mon Aiden... kick, little baby, keep K I C K ing.

I will go change the title of the thread when I'm finished with this post. Lisa sounds tired and worn out. She said Aiden is back in the PICU, and out of the post-op area. The surgeons are VERY pleased with how the surgery went, and expect his labs to improve through the night. They just pulled labs like an hour ago - that mean's about 8:00 PM on Monday. They should be ready by about 10. Hopefully I'll get news then, and will come post. For now, that's all I have to update.
One side note: I think all of your comments for the donor family are wonderful, and very compassionate. Unfortunately, being an organ donor is a completely anonymous gift until the donor family decides to find the recipient. If and when they do decide to make contact, it is to a mediator of sorts, and then the recipient family is allowed to decide if they want to meet the donor family. My point is that even though I would be jumping on the bandwagon with you to send thoughts to them, I have to tell you that it is not possible at this point. However, I think any amount of prayers and thoughts are welcome and appreciated. (I thought the prayer for someone's dog that is in heaven to go find the child and play with it was absolutly eloquent - it made me weep.) I really do not mean to be discouraging, but simpy do not want any of you to take this too far before you find that all details are confidential. I do know that the well-meaning thoughts are appreciated by everyone involved in this story.
Keep praying everyone, it's working so far and I think Aiden can hear you!
Grab mane and kick on, Baby - Santa can't wait to see you!

Aiden's LIVER WAS SAVABLE AND SO WAS HIS SPLEEN!!!!!!!!! They were able to save the liver and route blood flow in through the cadaveric vein--so yet another young child passed into God's care and Aiden was given another gift of life! As Lisa said--we just needed another little angel fighting for us! The ultrasound showed good blood flow and we are doing the happy dance!!!!!!!
They were also able to save his spleen which is soooooo important for a child who is immune suppressed!!!!!!!!!!! So these are TWO MAJOR VICTORIES FOR AIDEN.
He will be back in PICU soon and Lisa can't wait to see him!!!!!!!!! She and Joey are anxiously awaiting his return--so once again we have a critical 72 hours ahead but we all really feel like this is it--that we have found the problem that has been there from the beginning.
You have to realize how hard the little guy had to be fighting for those liver functions to come down like they did--WITHOUT THE PROPER BLOOD FLOW--our prayers and his spirit did that! They shouldn't have come down at all...BUT THEY DID!! WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!!!!!! The power of prayer is awesome!
I'll update more as soon as I hear from Lisa and we tuck him in for the night!
I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS BOARD ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS--whoever posted the meanings of the names--my middle name is Elizabeth--which is where Lisa is derived from

What wonderful news! I will be anxiously awaiting the results of the blood tests and thinking positive thoughts. I am hoping that this latest surgery represents a major turning point on the road to recovery, with no more hidden "gotchas".

Lord Jesus, you came into the world
to heal our infirmities
and to endure our sufferings.
You went about healing all
and bringing comfort
to those in pain and need.
We come before you now
in this time of Aiden's illness
asking that you may be the source
of our strength in body,
courage in spirit
and patience in pain.
May we join ourselves more closely
to you on the cross
and in your suffering
that through them
we may draw our patience and hope.
Assist him and restore him to health
so that united more closely
to your family, the Church,
we may give praise and honour to your name.
Amen.

Today when I was leaving the barn after dropping off my daughter, a HUGE hawk flew right in front of my car and off into the field. I like to think it was a positive sign.
When we sat at dinner tonight, I told my husband, my daughter and my mom that if anything ever happened to me I want my organs donated. My husband asked which ones, and I said all and anything that would be useful to someone. Then he said "what about your brain?" and my mom said, "sure, they only take the ones that haven't been used". (A moment of levity here for all!)
Many prayers from my house to the Hawk family and everyone around them tonight.

It seems to me that any family who has made this selfless choice is to be thanked. Therefore I'm not sure that it's important that we know the particular family - anyone who has lost a child and given the gift could be Aiden's angel. And if not Aiden then some other equally needy child.
