We've developed kind of a language of our own here, and it can be pretty confusing at first. Here are some basics to get you started.
Curb chains: This bit of BB lore arose out of the infamous Question For Merry thread. The California clique decided (tongue in cheek) to form a cult, and decided to beg for money at the airport. But rather than banging tambourines, Merry suggested rattling curb chains.
These days, curb chains are collectively jangled whenever a BBer needs good luck. Make sure to keep one handy! And be sure to request curb jingles from fellow BBers whenever you need them.
Peeps: Y'know, Peeps. The fluorescent marshmallow chicks and bunnies you can buy at Easter time. They're a favorite COTH confection.
Check the Plight of the Peeps thread in the archives to learn about Peeps' place in COTH legend.
Alter ego: An alias used by a well-known poster to post incognito, to stir up trouble, or to provide comic relief. Some more famous alter egos are Teddy Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Alan Greenspan, Anne Murray, Alex Trebek, and G. Morris.
See the Numping with socks on thread for more BB buzzwords.
