If someone was buying me one as a gift, I would get dark blue. That said, I own black, because I found a very nice lightly used black one for very little money. And then laid out $$ for the top hat. Which sadly will likely collect dust in the closet even though I hope to be back in the PSG ring this winter.
I think that there is something just a smidge "softer" about the dark blue; or even some of the more creative colors like a brown or gray that you see the Europeans wearing.
We don't get less brave; we get a bigger sense of self-preservation........

Mine is Navy. I guess my feelings are that I have worn black all this time, I finally got to wear another colour.

I have navy. And I have black (same as in my short coats) I prefer the navy. Not as harsh with my coloring.

I have black because it was in stock in the size/brand that fits me without alterations. I would prefer navy- and will likely do that for the next one.

As I put the Dork in DDQ: Dorky-Dressage Queen, my navy tails (from www.rjclassics.com) have interchangeable points, which I can make yellow or a lighter blue, to match the navy helmet and the navy boots. Yep, Dork. The RJ coats are STUNNING, really really lightweight, and under $500. Really!

http://www.chronofhorse.com/sites/de...alfpassweb.jpg has the light blue points. They're making me a set that's a little "bolder" - I think these are too light and are getting "lost." But pretty nifty.

I like black on a black horse and navy for everything else. Love some of the new color options, but feel like they draw a lot of attention.... if only I could afford one of everything!

Mine is navy. Like someone else said, black can be a bit too harsh and the navy seems not make me look like death warmed over though by the second day even navy no longer helps
