Decent hotels near GIHP?
What's everyone's preference for hotels near GIHP nowadays? I've heard (and read some reviews) that the Hawthorn has gone way WAY downhill. I've never actually had to stay at a hotel when I showed there - I always just drove in from Athens when I lived there! Those were the days, sigh... Thanks for any recommendations!

Hampton Inn is top choice if you're not on a budget, and not staying with a dog.
La Quinta is better for the budget and for bringing a dog.
I did the Jameson last time. Wasn't terrible, bed had lost it's spring, and as a single 24 year old staying there, I was kinda glad I have a huge dog =]

I stayed at the Hawthorne last year and booked it again for 10 days for this summer. It was great--we had a huge one bedroom suite with a balcony, the dog was welcome and we had front row seats for the fourth of July fireworks. Pool was great, staff friendly--the only disappointment was the food. Restaurant only open limited hours and not so great menu. But we like to eat out and had a nice kitchen too so it was ok.

I always stayed at the La Quinta.. stayed there at every show from 1996ish to 2005 when I moved away. It is far away from fancy but perfectly nice.

We sometimes have people stay with us, but we're 30 min away - www.southcross.com.
ETA: We have a B&B package, so you don't have to pay the same price as people staying for the horseback riding and meals

There is a new (@ 2 years old) Holiday Inn Express that is very nice. It's at the same exit (82) as the hampton Inn.

The area is getting so dangerous so be careful where you stay. I work on exit 84 about 5 min from GIHP and we had 2 shootings that I know of not far from here in the last week!
