Spiders Hatch Simultaneously, or Ten Million Reasons to Look Inside Your Helmet
......need I say more?
Yes, today I went on the first ride of the season. My helmet was stored in the mud room (oh!oh! another title: One Good Reason to Store Your Helmet in a Sealed Container). First I thought I'd gone through a cob web on the trail, then there were a couple dozen crawling down my sleeve, then I felt them on my chin...then I noticed some in my horses mane..........then, after an itchy, 2 hour trail ride I took off my helmet (cue the screeeching)......and I saw that some were still trying to get out of their fuzzy little spider nest that had opened INSIDE MY HELMET.
Reminds me of a time a friend of mine went out riding, took her helmet out of her trunk, and went off on a short trail. She came back super fast, helmet off, and having conniptions. Apparently mice had gotten into her helmet, and as she rode and the helmet warmed up, the not-so-nice-fragrance of mouse pee was surround her! She threw out the helmet and went home and washed her hair 3 times before she felt clean!
I would rip the helmet off and fling myself off the horse. And stand there screaming and shaking and brushing myself off. *shudder* That is horrifying. Congratulations for touching upon the only scenario in which I would be okay with not wearing a helmet.
OMGOMGOMG!! I have the creepy crawlies all over!!! Time to purchase and airtight chamber for my helmet and DON'T think it won't get a thorough chekcing out next time I'm at the barn!! I would have also flung myself at a tree..
HL walks away still itching and quivering.. ewwwwww

There were several hundred of them in there too...
I LIKE spiders and I'd be a little freaked out on that one!
My mom worked with spiders for her dissertation and when my brother was a toddler he managed to get into one of the containers and was COVERED in almost a thousand little baby spiderlings. I had to keep him still while my mom used her little baby spiderling catcher/counter for each and every one
