    Default Spud is a hero!

My dad has a catahoula dog, Spud. Now Spud ain't pretty and he's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer but he does love to go with my dad around the farm. My Dad is 82 and has had a bout of prostate cancer that has left him weak in his lower back. He gets around pretty good but if he falls or gets down, he can't get back up. So yesterday Dad was reading the meter at the well house, fell and couldn't get back up. He remembered seeing a TV show about a service dog who was trained to assist a person who couldn't get up after falling. So he calls Spud over. Ol' Spud came, let Dad grab him and use him to pull himself up. Dad said Spud braced himself and stood stock still. So Spud done good. If Dad hadn't been able to use Spud to help himself up, he would have lain there for quite a while before my Mom came to look for him.

What a good dog! Hope he got an extra dog biscuit for his heroic act.

I remember on another board, a woman with MS or something causing physical weakness. She went out to the field to put a blanket on her pony, and fell in the field and couldn't get up. The pony saw her, walked over and let her grab his mane and use him as a support to pull her up. Then went back to his friends
