Connemara cross who lives out 24/7 needs a waterproof breathable no fill turnout that won't slide back off her shoulder. I have had the worst problems with water getting into the neck and soaking her shoulder (and then rubbing, off course) but I don't want to use a hood because she will get way too hot. Just want to keep her dry in the wet Virginia winter.

This should work great. Weatherbeeta usually suits the wider bodied horses very well.

Shires have half combo blankets too which are again very suitable for wide bodied horses, but only in the mediumweight category 200g, not without fill as far as I know.

Look at Schneider's horse supply online. They have a ton of different fits and cuts. Remember they do tend to run small so you may want to order up a size.

Rambo Excel/XL blankets might work. Smartpak has them on sale now.

I LOVE schneider's blankets! I have the Vtek sheet and blanket, and Jet finally went through a winter with no rubs. Plus the blanket didn't shift even though he is turned out 24/7. They make a warmblood fit, that has a deeper drop for wider horses.

I tried the HUG blankets, and they didn't rub, but they tore really easily (and jet was stalled most of the time), and the plastic hardware broke within a few weeks.

Schneiders has ONE highneck turnout in their catalog and they don't have it in a lightweight no fill sheet. I have a couple of marathon lightweights but they aren't going to fit her.

I've use a turtleneck on her which fits like a hugs, but it doesn't protect her shoulders and it is not a mid/high neck.

My Connemara/TB mare wears a SmartPak High-neck turnout, and my Appendix QH has one as well. I consider both of them to be pretty wide and neither of them got any rubs last year. For what it's worth the Weatherbeetas worked OK on my Appendix but rubbed my Connemara mare's shoulders. Amigo blankets also worked well, I found Rambos had too long of a drop (she is only 15.2)

The ad for this sheet says it has a wither relief pad to protect the wither and mane. I'm curious about what this really is.
