Default Dutch Breeders of New England Meeting! June 26th, 2010 in Williston, Vermont

    Press Release
Williston, Vermont- Madeleine and Elisabeth Austin are pleased to announce that the second meeting of the “Dutch Breeders of New England” will take place at the Austin’s farm, Imajica (www.imajica.net), on June 26th, 2010. The brain child of Dutch breeder Scot Tolman, the gathering at Imajica will be the second installment of what Tolman hopes to be a quarterly event. “At these meetings, we talk Dutch horses; talk marketing strategies for the region--maybe some group advertising or sales tours; educate other breeders in bloodlines, organize the annual New England Keuring; bring in outside experts that are willing to talk to us and be part of the educational process; drink wine and eat good food; see each other's horses; do some hands on analysis of conformation and movement...and on and on.”
The first meeting at Tolman’s Shooting Star Farm (www.shootingstarfarm.com) was wildly successful with a focus on the linear scoring system- the system used at KWPN and KWPN-NA inspections to rate the conformation and movement of each horse. A few horses were then brought out for the audience to ask questions about and discuss how they might be judged at an inspection. Attendees were also treated to a sneak peak of Tolman’s 2010 foal collection, broodmares and up-and-coming young horses, as well as a demonstration by Liz Austin on the five-year-old Rousseau daughter, Allure S (Rousseau x Farrington).
For the second DBNE meeting the focus will be on preparing horses for the IBOP, the riding test for young KWPN horses which consists of a dressage phase for dressage-bred horses and an under saddle and jumping phase for jumper-bred horses. Additionally those in attendance will be treated to a presentation of horses from Madeleine Austin’s breeding program including the opportunity to see Austin’s most successful offspring, the KWPN Erkend and Crown stallion, Olivier. Olivier and Austin’s daughter are currently ranked #86 in the FEI World Rankings and are qualified for the National Championships in Gladstone, NJ this August which will be the final selection trials for the World Equestrian Games.
Another unique component of this meeting will be the chance for people to see some of the work that goes into creating, building and maintaining a top-level equine athlete. Liz Austin has invited renowned equine massage therapist Sal Salvetti (www.salmassage.com) to the farm for most of the day where he will be working on horses and answering questions. “Sal has been doing work for me since 2004 when we met in Florida. He began working on Olivier nearly six years ago and now works on all of my horses as often as I can get him. I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to horse care and I try to keep things as simple and close to nature as possible, but there is no denying that Sal’s work has had a profound effect on all of my horses” Austin commented.
Saturday evening KWPN-NA jury member Faith Fessenden will treat us to a video presentation on the history of the KWPN horse and its foundation sires. Continued emphasis will focus on the importance of pedigree, where and how to study the sire AND dam lines. Faith was one of the founding members of the KWPN-NA in 1983 and became a jury member for the KWPN-NA Keurings in 2005. Faith is also a very successful breeder having produced numerous Keuring Champions both in the United States and Holland. Offspring from her program have gone on to compete very successfully in all three Olympic disciplines.

Sounds wonderful! It's great to see something like this hosted here in Northern Vermont. This is music to our local ears. We'll certainly all try to get out and show our support.
