    Default Clarification: FEI

Hi, bear with me please - what is "FEI" (I do know what it stands for) as an association, and how is it different from USDF? How does dressage in FEI differ from dressage under USDF? How does three day eventing come into FEI, and is that the only association undwhich eventing is done?

    Then

Is it possible to breifly explain the difference between USDF Dressage and Eventing dressage and scoring?

    Thanks

FEI is the International Federation, representing International level competitions, in eight disciplines, (including Eventing).

USDF is the US national dressage federation. USEF is the US National Equestrian Federation, including all disciplines and Eventing.

Eventing counts penalities, so the dressage score in eventing is converted from points to penalities.

    Bronte is right.

FEI is the international governing body for many equestrian sports. Each country, though, has its own national governing body too.

In the US, the USEF is the umbrella organization which governs most equestrian sports. Below the USEF, there are sport specific governing bodies, including the USDF, USEA and USHJA.

What bronte said. However, eventing dressage scoring is slightly different between the USEA/USEF levels and the FEI levels. Under USEA/USEF scoring, the dressage percentage is simply deducted from 100, to get the score in penalties so your eventing dressage score is the percentage points you DIDN'T receive. (i.e., a 62% is a 38) However, under FEI rules, the percentage is subtracted from 100, then multiplied by 1.5 in order to weight the dressage more heavily against the other two phases. (i.e., a 62% is a 57).
