Cool I'm a bad horse mommy because

My gelding had a huge bean!! I guess I should of cleaned his sheath earlier! It's been cold and this horse usually barely has a bean at all! Well not this time! It was freaking huge ok I mean not a golf ball or anything but pretty darn big. I feel so bad. I checked because I was giving him a bath and he has been rubbing his tail which is not an unsually behavior for him due to allegries and constant battle with NTWs.

I just feel like a bad mommy! Espically after an AMAZING ride! I think we finally figured out and dealt with all of his soundness issues!! Wahoo!

male horses are self cleaning you should only clean the sheath if advsed via vet for medical reason if however you want to him then just buy a bottle of baby oil as it has no addictives in it and put some in a spray water bottle and just spay his under carriage or put some on a clean sponge and just wie around the rim

you can cause more harm than good as people will tend to clean a sheaf when its doesnt need it as the bateria of your hands or gloves can cause problems

How do they fit their hoof up in there to remove the bean?

    -laughing so hard-

Uh... I've gotten in trouble for NOT cleaning my boy for months. I took my high school boyfriend to the barn for the very first time to meet my other boy. Well, lo and behold, as I take him out of his stall, all proud and mighty, I glance under his belly and his sheath is swollen to the size of a baseball! I almost died with embarrassment and worry. I had to call my trainer who was away at a show to make sure his life wasn't in danger or something. lol

Tru never seems to get a bean. Ever. Is that really normal? I clean him about 4 times a year, more if he's rubbing his tail out.

Wow, 4 times a year? Im lucky to get mine done in the summer during a bath!

Lets say you have a horse that drops at the, er, drop of a hat. Is there any reason to do any more inside sheather cleaning, or just the bean harvest?
