I wondered the same question as well.
Indeed its shocking the horse didn't suddenly catch fire or explode or whatever nonsense is suggested that will almost certainly happen to a horse running off it. Yes, bleeding is serious but too many trainers seem to use it "just in case" or fearing they'll lack an edge that others may have. Of course I'm no trainer so take my opinion/observation as just that.
Add to that the connections saved $20 from not being charged the admin fee :D
