Mark Rashid Rocking S Raised Snaffle

Anyone familiar with or using this bit? I have just bought a 4 year old filly that was ridden in a single wire snaffle. Seems extreme for a green mild mannered horse. A friend suggested this bit as I would also like to ride her English. She will need to go on contact. I have put her in a rubber 3 piece snaffle for now. Any suggestions? Is this bit appropriate for a green horse. She is very sweet and quiet.

I had one for my Haflinger. Really liked it. Probably would have kept it for my mare, but I'd lucked out at getting one of the larger ones at Jeffers, and my mare has a teeny mouth. I'd have liked to try the dog bone one if I ever did ride my mare in a bit again.

Riding my Haffie in a Myler western d snaffle with a tiny port now because he actually likes that better, but a couple of friends still have their Rockin S snaffles. I know they make a Rockin S with a port, but I preferred my Myler for the golden boy after he's made so many improvements with it, and hesitate to try anything else.

I really like a Greg Dutton western-cheek D ring, dog-bone snaffle.
I've not had it on a horse that didn't like it.

There are a bazillion 'snaffle' bits with leverage- the one I like is a D ring snaffle, with curved canons and a 3-piece, smooth mouth with a link in the middle. No leverage. It's hard to find, but worth it. Works great on a horse that's been taught to either lean on a bit, or be 'afraid' of contact...just as long as your hands are used right!
