It's Another Big Win For Hayley Barnhill In The ASPCA Maclay Finals

Syracuse, N.Y., Nov. 7

It got so quiet in the ring during Hayley Barnhill’s first round of the ASPCA Maclay Finals that you could hear a whisper. Barnhill had all eyes on her and all the pressure of being the class favorite today in the Maclay Finals.

But she didn’t blink, and rode just as calmly, precisely and fluidly as she had to, claiming her second major equitation title, following up her win three weeks ago in the Pessoa/USEF Medal Finals with blue in the ASPCA Maclay Finals.

The 2010 ASPCA Maclay Finals Course

Judges Meredith Smith Taylor and Scott Hofstetter have set a lovely, flowing track for the first round of the Maclay. There aren't any gimmicky jumps or lines, and the course demands a forward, positive ride.

Engle rode Indigo to the top of a three-horse jump-off against two international challengers, Harrie Smolders of the Netherlands and Marie Hecart of France. Hecart and Smolders made Engle’s life a little easy, pulling a rail each in the jump-off.

Sapphire Is Presidential At Washington International Horse Show

Washington, D.C., Oct. 30

There aren’t many people who would consider the Washington International a warm-up show. But the veteran team of McLain Ward and Sapphire made a stop in the nation’s capital a priority before heading to Europe this winter and topped the $100,000 President’s Cup CSI-W.

“My plan all along was that if Sapphire came out of the world championships well, we would do two shows in Europe in December,” said Ward, Brewster, N.Y. “I wanted to do one warm-up show, and she’s handled this well in the past.”
