Invincible Scores A Big Win At Capital Challenge

Oct. 6—Upper Marlboro, Md.

Ellen Toon couldn’t have had a much better trip to Capital Challenge. She rode Invincible to a mark of 90 over fences, which earned today's EMO Trip of the Show award and helped boost them to the amateur-owner, 36 and over, reserve championship. And this afternoon she followed up with another big win: riding Invincible to the top of the WCHR Amateur-Owner Challenge.

It's Another Big Win For Hayley Barnhill In The ASPCA Maclay Finals

Syracuse, N.Y., Nov. 7

It got so quiet in the ring during Hayley Barnhill’s first round of the ASPCA Maclay Finals that you could hear a whisper. Barnhill had all eyes on her and all the pressure of being the class favorite today in the Maclay Finals.

But she didn’t blink, and rode just as calmly, precisely and fluidly as she had to, claiming her second major equitation title, following up her win three weeks ago in the Pessoa/USEF Medal Finals with blue in the ASPCA Maclay Finals.

The 2010 ASPCA Maclay Finals Course

Judges Meredith Smith Taylor and Scott Hofstetter have set a lovely, flowing track for the first round of the Maclay. There aren't any gimmicky jumps or lines, and the course demands a forward, positive ride.

The course starts out with a single oxer, then riders jump another single oxer out of the corner, then turn back in a sweeping, wide rollback to a triple combination along the long side of the ring.

Indigo Is All Blue At Syracuse Invitational

Syracuse, N.Y., Nov. 6

Margie Engle’s not known for going slow, but she’s getting used to it. And it’s paying off, as careful and conservative won the day for her in the $100,000 Detwiler Fenton World Cup Qualifier of Syracuse presented by G&C Farm.

Engle rode Indigo to the top of a three-horse jump-off against two international challengers, Harrie Smolders of the Netherlands and Marie Hecart of France. Hecart and Smolders made Engle’s life a little easy, pulling a rail each in the jump-off.
