A Royal Reining Family

Everyone dreams of breeding together two of the best horses in the world—Sarah Willeman has done it.

On May 7, her phone lit up with a photo text message of an adorable chestnut filly with a big white face. If genes have anything to say about it, this filly should be a giant in the reining world, since her sire is 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games team and individual gold medalist Gunners Special Night, and her dam is 2011 FEI Reining World Final winner Darlins Not Painted, both ridden by Tom McCutcheon.

McCutcheon Adds Another Gold To His Count In WEG Reining Final

Lexington, Ky.—Sept. 30

Tom McCutcheon had two team golds and an individual silver in his world championship collection, but today he added the ever-elusive individual gold to his count aboard Gunners Special Nite at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

He placed first on a score of 228.0 over his U.S. teammate Craig Schmersal on Mister Montana Nic (223.0) and Canada’s Duane Latimer on Dun Playin Tag (222.5).

Flarida Leads U.S. Reiners To Team Gold

Lexington, Ky.—Sept. 26

The crowd may have been rowdy for today’s final reining team session, but they failed to drown out the announcer—until the moment Shawn Flarida entered the ring. 

And the wild roar didn’t die down until long after he left it, having secured the third consecutive U.S. team gold today, Sept. 26, at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

Flarida and RC Fancy Step finished with the top individual score, a 227.0, a full 3 points ahead of anyone else in the field.

U.S. Team Leads Reining After First Day

Lexington, Ky.—Sept. 25

At the conclusion of the first day of reining team competition at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, the United States stood on top of the leaderboard. But it was Italian Stefano Massignan and Yellow Jersey who earned the top spot with a score of 224.00.

McQuay Leads At First Break For Team Reining, Van Grunsven Fifth

Lexington, Ky.—Sept. 25

Tim McQuay of the United States rode Hollywoodtinseltown, David Silva’s palomino Quarter Horse (Hollywood Dun It—Hollywood Jac 86), into first place during the first section of reining team competition at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games with a score of 220.50.
