Virginia Horse Center Foundation 25th Anniversary Date Announced

On Saturday, October 8, 2011, the Virginia Horse Center Foundation will open its proverbial barn doors to celebrate the organization’s 25th anniversary.

“We want to mark the occasion with a community-oriented day of activities highlighting the vibrant and diverse nature of the Virginia Horse Center,” said Katherine Truitt, the Executive Director, adding that, “There are a lot of people to thank for the Foundation’s longevity – from founding members to politicians to the board to our participants - and we want them to feel our gratitude.”

Patricia Griffith & Heritage Farm Join Team EquiFit

Deadline Extended: 2011 Washington International Horse Show Poster Contest

Washington, DC, June 7, 2011 – The Washington International has extended its deadline for submitting entries in the 2011 Poster Contest to July 31st at midnight.  WIHS, the leading indoor equestrian event in the US, is seeking an original poster design for its 53rd annual event, to be held Oct. 25-30, 2011, at Verizon Center in Washington, DC.  The six-day equine extravaganza features the country’s leading horses and riders in exciting jumping competition.

VT-NH Komen Presents 2nd Annual Ride for the Cure, October 10

MANCHESTER, VT – The Vermont-New Hampshire Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the Race for the Cure people – holds its second annual equine themed fund raising event, the Ride for the Cure, on Monday, Columbus Day, October 10, 2011, hosted by the Green Mountain Horse Association (GMHA) in South Woodstock, Vermont.

The Ride, which will traverse ten miles of forested trails maintained by GMHA and private landowners, will leave from (and return to) GMHA’s extraordinary facility in South Woodstock starting at 9:30 a.m.

Equestrian Victoria to Pay Tribute to Australian Sporting Hero

The Australian equestrian community will pay tribute to Australian sporting hero James William ‘Bill’ George Roycroft OBE on Sunday, 12 June at the Melbourne International Three-Day-Event. Bill Roycroft passed away on May 29 at the age of 96.

USEF's High School Equestrian Athlete Program Kicks Off

Lexington, KY - The USEF High School Equestrian Athlete program is officially underway for the 2011-2012 school year!  Students are encouraged to sign up now to count their summer practice and competition hours toward their goal of lettering as a USEF High School Equestrian Athlete.

The USEF High School Equestrian Athlete program is open to equestrian athletes involved in all breeds and disciplines who are enrolled in grades 9-12.

Thoroughbred Celebration Show June 10-12, 2011

After a successful premiere in March, The Virginia Horse Center Foundation is expecting a large turn-out for the second show in the Thoroughbred Celebration Series on June 10-12. This series, created to promote the athleticism and heart of Off The Track Thoroughbreds (OTTB), features horses who were bred to race but have much to offer across all disciplines.

"These shows are just what racing needs. There are so many useful horses that just need a second chance when they are finished racing.
