One of the elements that makes a magazine lively and interesting is the readers' involvement in it, and the Chronicle is blessed that way. Since our readers are also the subjects of our articles, photos and long lists of results, it ensures that each week's issue has a certain personal touch.

One of the elements that makes a magazine lively and interesting is the readers’ involvement in it, and the Chronicle is blessed that way. Since our readers are also the subjects of our articles, photos and long lists of results, it ensures that each week’s issue has a certain personal touch.

In addition to reporting the horse world’s news as quickly and accurately as possible, we’re committed to offering our readers informed commentary on competitions, trends, events and our lives with horses. Each week for 63 years, my respected predecessors, other staff members and I have endeavored to inform, challenge and entertain you with our Commentaries on anything to do with horses.

But we also offer you, the reader, multiple opportunities to tell us why you think we’re wrong or to intellectually challenge everyone. The Letters To The Editor have always been a popular forum for anyone to comment on articles we’ve published or to respond to other readers’ letters. To give readers a chance to discuss topics we haven’t already brought up, we established The Horseman’s Forum almost 15 years ago, the topics of which have ranged from riding helmets to driving Mules. And for the past nearly two years, several thousand readers have developed a sense of community on the bulletin boards of our website (www.chronofhorse.com) as they chat about nearly anything.

Twelve years ago, we asked four recognized experts to write a monthly column on any subject that interests them, and immediately people began turning to the Between Rounds columns. For the past five years, Anne Gribbons has commented on dressage (succeeding Michael Poulin and then Hilda Gurney) and Victor Hugo-Vidal has commented on show hunters (succeeding Judy Richter).
