There are 69 horses on the start list for the first round of the team competition and the second qualifier for the individual final (9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. EST). The first nine to jump are the individual competitors, with the remaining 60 members of the 15 teams rotating. They jump one course today, with a time allowed.
The teams’ order of go was determined by the scores of the first qualifying round, but all teams start on a clean slate score. Each rider’s score, however, is cumulative in counting toward qualifying for the individual final. Team riders who were eliminated in the first qualifying round are allowed to jump for their team.
Only the top eight teams and the top 45 individuals after this round will move on to Round 2 on Aug. 17. Want more info about how the show jumping competition is organized? Check out our Need To Know for the first round.
