The U.S. dressage team finished strong today at the Rotterdam CHIO, earning the bronze medal behind the Netherlands and Sweden.

The U.S. team of Charlotte Jorst and Kastel’s Nintendo, Arlene “Tuny” Page and Woodstock, Kathleen Raine and Breanna and Shelly Francis and Doktor finished on a team average of 71.01 percent. In the CDI*** competition all U.S. combinations finished in the top 10.

Jorst and Page contested the Grand Prix Special today, earning marks of 71.33 and 70.78 percent respectively. Raine and Francis showed off their freestyles to scores of 73.82 and 70.07 percent. Those marks combined with yesterday’s Grand Prix test to put the United States on the podium, ekking ahead of Belgium.

“Rotterdam used a new CDIO format this week which utilized all three Grand Prix tests,” said Chef d’Equipe Christine Traurig. “The format made the competition very exciting and tense until the end as we were very close with Belgium all week. I could not be more pleased with everyone’s performances; they all rode amazingly and produced a fabulous result.” Sweden’s Patrik Kittel won the second phase of the competition with Watermill Scandic after a Depeche Mode-themed freestyle (81.87%), and Dutch rider Hans Peter Minderhoud rode a personal best of 81.05 percent on Glock’s Johnson TN. Francis contested the CDI*** Grand Prix freestyle on Patricia Stempel’s Danilo, Page and her own Alina, and Brian Hafner on Rebecca Hafner and his own Lombardo LHF. All produced solid rides, with Francis scoring 74.10 percent and fourth place, Page scoring 72.02 percent and fifth place and Hafner scoring a 67.05 percent and eighth place. |
