Two U.S.-bred horses, Emily Wagner’s WakeUp and Elizabeth Ball’s Selten HW, have qualified for the FEI World Breeding Championships in Verden, Germany, Aug. 5-8.

In order to qualify for the Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Short List, horses must have earned an overall score of 8.2 or better at any one of the Markel/USEF Young Horse Dressage Selection Trials or in international competition.

In the 5-year-old division, Wagner’s black American Warmblood stallion, WakeUp, posted a score of 8.232 to win the 5-year-old division at the Markel/USEF Central Young Horse Dressage Selection Trial in May at the Lamplight Equestrian Center (Ill.). Ball’s Hanoverian stallion, Selten HW, who was the 2008 4-year-old and 2009 5-year-old national champion, won the 6-year-old division at the Western Championships at the end of May in Flintridge, Calif.

Ball has chosen not to travel to Germany in August and will compete Selton at the U.S. Championships in hopes of winning the horse’s third national title.

“After much consideration I’ve decided to return to Lamplight rather than making the trip to Verden. We would be very proud for Selten to win three years in a row in the U.S. on our U.S.-bred horse,” said Ball, as reported by Dressage-news.com.
