Miami, FL – March 26, 2014 – – With the $200,000 American Invitational, presented by G & C Farm, just around the corner on April 5, 2014 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, world renowned Course Designer Steve Stephens has revealed the challenging test that will await the competitors at this year’s event.

Stephens, one of the world’s most respected builders, in addition to designing the American Invitational course since its inception, designed the courses for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (Hong Kong) and some of the most important show jumping events across the United States and around the world.  His work has been showcased at such important events as the American Gold Cup, the HITS Pfizer Million in Saugerties, NY, the National Horse Show, Lake Placid, the Devon Horse Show and the FEI Nations Cup at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

Stephens was recently named as one of the newest inductees into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame. “When I received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the USHJA, that was quite an honor. That was very important to me,” Stephens said. “On the other hand, going into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame is kind of the icing on the cake on my career. I’ve spent my life dedicated to the sport of show jumping and to be recognized for that is very, very special,” he said.

He is also the President of Stephens Designs, a company he formed in 1992 to create the jumps for the courses he and other great course designers build. Stephens’ jumps have been hailed world-wide for their creativity, their unique designs and beautiful colors. His jumps will be on display at Sun Life Stadium on April 5th.

Building the course for the American Invitational has always been near and dear to Stephens’ heart. “In 1972 Gene Mische (founder of Stadium Jumping) made the exciting decision to bring show jumping to an outdoor football stadium. From the beginning, I’ve always tried to make sure that the course I build matches the grandeur of the event itself,” Stephens explained. “As the most important event in show jumping, I want to build a course that’s a true test of scope and the athletic ability of the horse and a real test of the riders’ talent. I think you’ll see a great example of that at this year’s American Invitational.”
