Steeplechase Times, chronicler of the steeplechase industry, has merged with the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred and will no longer print independently beginning in March.

After 19 years in print, Steeplechase Times, which was founded by Joe and Sean Clancy of ST Publishing, will combine with the monthly periodical, published by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association.

“Steeplechase Times means a great deal to us, and it’s sad to see it draw to a close, but the publishing market has changed so much—when we started, the newspaper was the only way to find out results and get information,” said Joe in a statement on the ST Publishing website. “That’s no longer the case. American steeplechasing is a small part of the Thoroughbred industry and, though we’ve gotten great support from individuals and businesses, we’ve always taken on other projects to build the business. By joining with Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, we can continue without the challenges of publishing a newspaper in a small market and gain a stronger position in the Thoroughbred economy.”

Joe has been editor of the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred for several months, and they plan to expand the steeplechasing coverage in that publication.

“We welcome the chance to expand what we do and reach a wider segment of the region’s Thoroughbred industry through an expansion of the steeplechase coverage and the involvement of more people,” said Cricket Goodall, executive director of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. “We’ve got a great team in place, and we’re excited about the future for the magazine and everything we do here.”

Current subscribers to Steeplechase Times will receive Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred.
