Known as the world’s smoothest-riding horse, Peruvians were bred for long distance travel. Instead of trotting, Peruvians amble.  This four beat gait falls between a walk and a canter. It is a lateral gait, meaning that it has four equal beats and is performed laterally — left hind, left fore, right hind, right fore.

Both shows are free to the public and offer a great opportunity to learn about two noble and storied breeds.  Visit www.horsecenter.org and click the 2011 schedule for more details and contact information.

The Virginia Horse Center Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which owns and operates the Virginia Horse Center. The Foundation is proud to support a 600-acre facility that serves 400,000 people; functioning as a classroom, land reserve, market place, and recreation venue. The VHCF manages 110 events annually, most free and open to the public, and hosts the Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center.
