Senator Mary Landrieu To Speak In Middleburg, Virginia

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MARCH 28 --- United States Senator Mary Landrieu (D – LA) will meet members of the Northern Virginia equine community to discuss legislation in Congress that impacts the horse community.
 
The April 20 luncheon at the Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, Virginia will benefit the two Virginia herds of retired race horses managed by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.  Master of Foxhound, John T. Ferguson and his wife Leah T. Ferguson are hosts for the fundraiser.

Throughout her tenure in the U.S. Senate, Senator Landrieu has supported many animal protection efforts and is particularly passionate about equine issues. She has sponsored anti-slaughter legislation in past Congresses and plans to reintroduce that bill this year. She has also proposed reform to the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. She commends organizations like TRF that provide for solutions for unwanted horses and seeks to support the racing industry while ensuring the safety and welfare of the animals.
 
Senator Landrieu is currently the Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee and a member of the Appropriations and Energy and Natural Resources Committees. She also chairs the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security
 
The TRF is a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that rescues and retrains ex-racehorses for adoption to be show hunters, jumpers and trail horses as a second career. TRF’s supports eight corrections-based TRF programs, where retired Thoroughbred racehorses provide rehabilitation and TRF provides vocational training for inmate caretakers.
